The difference between a marketing strategy and a marketing plan
Marketing strategy and marketing plan get used interchangeably. Gerard draws the line simply. A plan is a list of activities: the things you will do to get from here to there. Plans feel safe and structured, which is why people reach for them. A strategy answers how you go to market: your positioning, why you are different, who you are talking to and why that will work. The strategy matters more because the plan will change. Every new product meets a market that throws punches, and tactics have to adapt. A strategy holds steady through that, because the fundamental truth of why the product exists does not move. If a clear roadmap existed, someone would have walked it already. Go to market with a strategy, stay consistent with it, and adapt the tactics around it.
